Final meeting: Monday 14th August 1865
The East Riding of Yorkshire village of Aldborough lies about 19 kilometres to the north-east of Hull and once boasted its own races. The village was a traditional English village with the majority of the population being farmers or trades associated with farming. In the mid-1860s there were 2 blacksmiths, 4 wheelwrights, a joiner and a farrier and therefore it is no surprise that racing was held in the village in March 1862. The George Inn, owned by George Malton, was used to register entries and pay subscriptions. Three years later the final meeting took place on Monday 14th August 1865 when the Purse of Gold was won by Mr Lamplugh’s Forester after two heats. The Royal Hotel, owned by George Hildred, provided a dance after racing.
